Is Shisha Halal? – Muslim Nightclubs

Shisha Lounge – Muslim Nightclubs?

This post is not a rant neither a message from the Haraam Police but i’d like to explore modern shisha lounges and how they’re becoming Muslim Nightclubs. Although the health hazards of shisha alone outweigh those of cigarettes, I want to focus on the outlets in this post. You can read more on shisha here:

What is a Shisha outlet?

Shisha (also known as Hookah) is a well known smoking pipe that has become highly popular recently, as a result hundreds of outlets have opened and many make way to spend their evening there. The typical outlet will have a bar area, a dance floor, a seating area for customers. Lights will flash in all directions and the latest niche music will play. As the competition gets tougher, business owners have gone to lengths to provide luxury to customers however haraam it may be- belly dancers are definite no no!

What is a nightclub (by definition)

They were initially set up as discos; a place to boogy to your favourite beats. Now they have become clubs for people to socialise in a very informal way, a way to chat to who ever you want and rave. Bars are similar, just for the snobs in society. However it’s not the venue that’s attractive, it’s the opportunity to sip on booze and get with whoever you want.

This is why it’s haraam for Muslims – Alcohol is no-no, Dancing (animal-istically) in public is a no-no and One Night Stands are a deffo no-no!

“No adulterer is a believer at the time when he is committing adultery; no thief is a believer at the time when he is stealing; no drinker of wine is a believer at the time when he is drinking it.”Prophet Muhammad (Bukhari)

One is based on a culture of drink and dance and the other a culture of smoke and intermingling. The very nature of these forms of outlets are the same.

Everyone tends to dress up and look as attractive as possible (whether or not it’s to pull). What seems to happen is, someone ends up finding you attractive, and uses your attendance to the club as an invitation- If you’re cool enough to go out on a night, then why would you be not be ok if a randomer spoke to you?

Due to Shisha having an Arabian heritage, many link it to be part of the Islamic tradition. It’s somehow got a Muslim feel, making even the ‘practising’ Muslims comfortable. But Nightclubs are the playground of the Shaytaan – free mixing between both genders, drugs, alcohol, girls/guys committing illegal acts (kissing, hugging, dancing and more) on the spot, going home with each other to fornicate are all works of the Shaytaan.

“The zina of the eyes is looking, the zina of the ears is listening, the zina of the tongue is speaking, the zina of the hand is touching, and the zina of the foot is walking. The heart wishes and longs and the private part confirms that or denies it.”Prophet Muhammad (Muslim)

“And come not near to unlawful sex. Verily, it is a Faahishah (i.e. anything that transgresses its limits: a great sin, and an evil way that leads one to hell unless Allah Forgives him)”Quran 17:32

Two clear examples on safeguarding the body and staying away from fornication.

“…the one who distils it, the one for whom it has been distilled, the one who drinks it, the one who transports it, the one to whom it has been brought, the one who serves it, the one who sells it, the one who utilizes money from it, the one who buys it and the one who buys it for someone else.” Prophet Muhammad on Alcohol (Tirmidhi)

From this hadith we can analyse that due to the ill-nature of intoxication by Alcohol- anything directly connected to it is also forbidden. There is clear emphasis on everything surrounding alcohol, likewise, anything leading to or as a consequence of other sins carry the same burden. If the Shisha Lounge acts as a medium for people to get frisky then its not halal- nothing has to happen that night. But swapping numbers can lead to destruction.

“The example of a good pious companion and an evil one is that of a person carrying musk and another blowing a pair of bellows. The one who is carrying musk will either give you some perfume as a present, or you will buy some from him, or you will get a good smell from him, but the one who is blowing a pair of bellows will either burn your clothes or you will get a bad smell from him.”Prophet Muhammad (Bukhari)

What we can learn from this is, even if you’re the innocent gullible friend. The effects of such places will rub on to you, it’ll weaken your Imaan- so don’t play the ‘but I’ve got my tasbih with me.’ card.

The Shisha Lounge environment are built for purpose of hedonistic pleasures. I’m not looking to preach or condemn individuals. Just something I’m beginning to notice in our society. Let me know what you think below?

Check out this video!

  • This is the place of great depressions. All the uncessful and despressed people go there, just look at their body language and gesture, all of them look dyfuntional.

  • I’m single muslim woman in my 40’s, I’m looking for a man and finding it difficult,
i want to meet some of my age, so we can be same level

  • It’s amazing to pay a quick visit this website and reading the views of all friends concerning
this issue, while I am also eager of getting familiarity.

  • Very eloquently put couldn’t agree more nowadays sheesha lounges are very club like it’s disgusting.

    Begs everywhere

  • Too fucking right. These are places where men meet women and party and everything goes. Funny thing is they go dressed in hijabs and salwar kameez lol. Only thing missing at moment is the alcohol won’t be long before its available.
They are shetaan dens and one on every street corner.

  • Had this convo with Hubby last night.. I’m sorry but today’s shisha lounge’s are equivalent to bars etc minus the alcohol.. If it’s so not and I’m wrong then happy to hear so.

  • LOL im places like bradford and birmingham they’re like clubs and shit cause they’re all too excited in notts and derby they’re places to chill.. i’ve never been to a cafe and started chatting to randoms inless theyre a friend of a friend.. i’m perfectly able to keep myself to myself as thats what we all doo!

  • Azzrat Ali Khan Let’s all look cool. Passing a pipe that we all suck from and blow smoke out our faces. ‘ aur bro, that girl looked at me yara, you think she’s on it. Pass me the pipe let me blow a hoop and see if she impressed ‘ Loool shisha faggots. Snm.

  • I hate these places, where I live in Bradford there opEning on every corner, there just kanjarkhaney

  • These are becoming very popular among young Muslims and they r disguised as Arabic and just a casual eating place with a sheesh a lounge but it like a Muslim nightclub and many won’t agree but it’s a similar environment and why aren’t there segregated areas so nog non maharam can see you and why is this so called sheesha acceptable by practising Muslims, it’s just an easy way to become more western in an Muslim way, not right at all, will lead to very bad haram practises.allah knows best, but I have very big doubts about sheesha places.

  • when I used to go with friends to Shisha cafes 10 years ago, although there were no ‘dance floors’ there was a lot of music and free-mixing. I was never of fan of the stuff and I haven’t been to one in nearly a decade but I do know of a few who do have small dance floors and disco lights. Most cater to muslims and non-muslims alike. Back then though there wasn’t the sleazy atmosphere that exists now. I do agree that they are a place for potential fitna – now that I am older and a little wiser I would never enter one again and advise the same for my friends inshallah

  • I to avoid these places all the girls look diseased there craving attention or your general wastegirs. The guys there just think they are gangster and getting high off the shisha like little school boys. But hey hopefully I find a normal shisha bar wityh normal decent people the ones in edgeware road seem half decent.

  • Any place that is an “asian hot-spot” will always attract socialites – they’re essentially ppl who are highly active socially and are usually rich with a lot of time on their hands, or pretend to be rich by spending their call centre salary on material adornments like Gucci kapre and a white German whip on finance, you know, the sort of nomenclature which helps to achieve their life’s ambition which is to work hard at being popular.

All this is usually done at the expense of any meaningful contribution to culture or community. One way you can ascertain who one of these socialites is is from the dull catchphrases they use like “that’s hot”, “oooo sik bro”, “omdaissss you seen state on yaself.”

  • I’ve never understood the appeal. I have tried it twice and that wasn’t in a sheesha place. Just not working for me. I think people are just sheep and these places are glorified Asian pubs.

  • Shut the shisha. Dumps. Up. And start from dirty pashas. Up leeds road. Wtf. You get pure nerds going there any way.

  • on a slightly different issue, those of you who go to shisha to puff on flavoured air, what the enjoyment you get outta that? no drugs so no intoxicating effects, no cigs so no nicotine…..just outta curiosity, what the point of them? i have been 2wice in my life and found both experiences dull and boring….so do tell

  • Subhan Allah, it is a very alarming situation. This practice is very common in some Muslim countries and is spreading day after day. Muslim men should fear Allah and learn to behave in public as well as in private. They should be an example to emulate and not an example of shame. I pray that Allah protect our ummah and give us all hidaya.

  • Blaming shisha places for sinful behaviour is nonsense. If someone is gonna do it, they are gonna do it regardless.

  • I think this is nonsense.

Firstly, the likes of pasha etc do not sell alcohol nor do they have dance floors. In fact, I don’t think I’ve come across any that have dance floors – and I’ve been to a few. I think the chat is, if people are cool with free mixing and loud music and dancing then they just go to a damn club. Why bring shisha into it?

We live in the most vain times (guilty myself of that) and everyone is more looks conscious than they have ever been. I agree that people dress up to the nines when they go out, however, I think it’s naive to say it’s just for shisha lol. Have u been to a sixth form college lately?

The notion that if you go to a shisha bar, you will chat to randoms, give said random your number, blossom a quick meaningless relationship with mr random, fornicate conceive and die is just utter bs. And it’s utter bs to blame shisha on that happening. Let’s be honest, that all happened long before these cafés even opened (circa 10 years ago). If people are going to partake in aforementioned activities, it doesn’t really matter where the number swapping happens. Could be in bloody Tesco.

My experience of shisha is pretty boring compared to your extravagant story. Il go sometimes after work, see some friends, chill for about an hour (max, 2) then go home I refuse to accept that I’m the devil child and at the brink of fornication because of that.

I think the issue here is the culture of socialising has increased dramatically. A fatwa against shisha cafés ain’t gonna end that, though. In fact, if it wasn’t for these cafés that seem to fill a social void, I think you may find that the actual clubs would have a few more brown faces than usual!

Live and let live. Provide guidance, not opinion.

  • This is a great post! I totally agree Muslims are getting way out of hand astaghfirullah. Well done brother

    • In this day and age it’s embarrassing for the muslim community to have all these groomers of
These white girls which is a absolute shamble and before you look at other people of what they do and how they socialise if you look at the jails of yorkshire and muslim community there more percentage and parents of parents who have not raised they own kids or made time for them to grow and realise and the shisha lounge we have not seen a single shisha lounge thats sells alcholol before you start criticism what do you do for a living and hope ya self is not on family credit !! And what did your parents do before you was born and it always take a coward who will not admit who he is and what he has done so go smoke a shisha and enjoy life you sad person
